Bob
Smith (BS) called the meeting to order at 6:32. Minutes of the previous meeting
could not be approved, as they were not distributed. Will correct at next
meeting.
Brian
White (BW) presented a projected budget for 2004, including income and expenses
for the 2004 North Americans Soling Regatta (NA). NA numbers were discussed and
we want to break even on the event. Expenses for meals, awards, and tee shirts
were discussed.
Money
from sponsors should be sought to help cover printing the Race Book again this
year. Is there a way to get LaBatt to sponsor a race? Sarah Tucker (ST) will
follow up once she knows the numbers.
How
many Regular ($150) members last year? 27
BS
wondered if we raise the dues, would we lose any Regular members?
Eddie
Trombley (ET) said he didn’t know, and argued against raising the dues.
Bob
Bunnell (BB) worked out the budget total from BW’s budget (including
adjustments made during earlier discussion) and divided it by 25 possible
members. It worked out to $258.
BW
motioned to raise dues for Regular Membership from $150 to $250.
BB
seconded.
Discussion
BB
asked if a one-time assessment was an option. This was discussed last year.
BS
noted that this was an ongoing expense, so an assessment was not a good idea.
BB
motioned to call the question.
ST
seconded.
The
motion to call the question passed with one abstention.
The
Board then voted on the original motion to raise the dues from $150 to $250.
The
motion passed with 6 in favor and 1 opposed.
Phil
Gorman (PG) said he would have a draft of the Race Book at the February meeting,
and that he would get in touch with Matt Spiegel regarding the Naked Turtle
Festival.
Brian
Dowling (BD) attended a meeting of the LCPHRF Committee along with Chris Duley
(CD) and John Pytlak on December 3. New officers were elected and all issues
were tabled until spring.
No
Report
ST
wondered if $50 was a good price to ask for an ad in the Race Book. All agreed
that it sounded good.
BW
wondered if we could offer a package deal with an ad, logos on marks, flags…
BD
motioned to increase the Associate Membership fee from $50 to $75. After some
discussion, there was no second to the motion, and it was withdrawn.
CD
mentioned that he had some the Committee Boat to a potential buyer (who wasn’t
interested) and wondered what he should ask for it.
BS
suggested $1000.
CD
asked what criteria the new boat must have.
At
least 22 feet.
Some
storage for flags and marks.
A
cabin.
Dan
Inhelder motioned to adjourn.
BS
seconded.
Motion
passed with all in favor at 8:45.
The
next meeting of the Board is on February 9, 2004, at 6:30pm, at the Inn at
Smithfield. All interested Club members are welcome.
