Executive
Committee Meeting
5
October 2004
Members
present: Don Duley, Phil Gorman, William Brockway, Brian White, Dan Inhelder,
Chris Duley, Ed Trombley, Brian Dowling, Sarah Tucker, Bob Bunnell
Don
Duley (DD) called the meeting to order at 6:35. Brian Dowling (BD) made a motion
to accept the minutes of the last meeting, Phil Gorman (PG) seconded, and the
motion passed with all in favor.
Treasurer's
Report
Brian
White (BW) reported that we took in about $1,300 more than we anticipated on the
Soling NAs. DD asked BW to bring a preliminary budget for next year to the next
meeting.
Race
Committee
Phil
Gorman (PG) reported that racing was over for the year. DD expressed the Club's
thanks for all Phil's hard work.
PG
has gone overall the scoring and everything 1ooks correct and ready for the
awards presentation.
PG
solicited suggestions for changes to the Race Handbook next year .
Race
Committee Boat
DD
asked how the repairs were going, and what we should do about winter storage?
Chris
Duley (CD) reported that we had changed plugs and wires, but the starboard
engine still didn't work. We then fixed the fuel pump, but the engine still
didn't work. CD then drove the boat down to Snug Harbor to have their mechanics
look at it. They will check it out tomorrow and give CD an estimate.
PG
motioned to approve up to $600 discretionary spending to CD to repair the
Committee boat at Snug Harbor. BW seconded, and the motion passed with all in
favor .
Bob
Bunnell noted that it would probably cost about $384 for winter storage at the
PBB.
DD
asked how much it would cost to buy a trailer.
CD
had some examples of trailers for sale between $1,100 and $1,800. After some
discussion, DD summed up that we could probably find a used trailer for $2/000
or a new one for $5,000. Should we consider this?
BW
noted that it might be a little tight with our budget.
Dan
Inhelder (Dl) suggested that we store the boat this year at PBB and consider
buying a trailer next year .
Ed
Trombley suggested that we invest one week in looking for a trailer before
deciding.
PG
motioned to approve a potential $1,500 expenditure for one week provided we
found a suitable trailer. BD seconded.
Discussion
It
may cost even less, if we find one that needs a few repairs, or has a lower
weight capacity, considering that we won't be hauling long distance. Bill
Brockway (WB) cautioned against buying a low-capacity trailer as that might make
it harder to sell the boat some time in the future.
The
motion passed with all in favor .
CD,
ET, and Dl will research and decide whether or not we can buy a trailer in the
next week.
Mark
Removal
PG
noted that he and a few helpers would bepul11ng the marks on Sunday at 11:00.
Soling
NAs
ET
noted that we did make a profit on the Regatta, and that mayor may not be a good
thing. Could we have gotten more boats to participate if the Regatta fee was
lower? Or had an Early Bird Special rate?
BW
suggested ala carte pricing or level pricing.
Should
we do this or some kind of big event every year?
ET
noted several good and bad points regarding the NAs. The biggest thing is
the
need of a Shore Committee to provide a headquarters for information, results,
and general problem solving.
