VSC Executive Committee Minutes

June 7, 2007

6:30 PM

Present: Eddie Dave, Ty, Amy, Gwen, Brian D.

Absent: Tuge and Brian White

I. Treasurer's Report: The Spring Banquet raised $78.49 from donations to go toward the Learn to Sail Scholarship VSC grants to a low income child interested in sailing. Thanks for your donations! Gas was put in the boat and  came to $552.81. Outstanding memberships are creating a cash flow burden. Boats who haven't paid their dues are not going to be scored and Ty will send out an email to this effect.

II Race Committee Business:

A.  Marks:  The north mark is shot. Ty is in the process of making a new mark and will replace other marks that are at risk of sinking. The club cannot afford to buy new chain for all marks, and preventative maintenance is necessary.  The committee agreed to getting new marks built as needed, and Dave agreed to donate reflective paint for them.  Also, the large orange inflatable is destroyed. Ty was approved to buy two new ones for $85 each.

B.  Boat: The RC Boat has been difficult to start. Ty will be advising OD's about what needs to be done to start it. . There was discussion about safety, following the Tuesday soling race. The boat is slow and cumbersome and cannot respond well in emergency situations. The club is looking into ways to raise money for a new boat in the future.

III. PHRF Business:

A. LCRW:  Brian Dowling has agreed to take over as the new LCRW Chairman. Amy has agreed to create a flyer and get copies made for distribution. Dave, Brian and Tuge will help distribute the flyers to boat owners on both sides of the lake.

B. Memberships:   We need more boats on the water. Getting a Jib and Main class started would be a great way to begin. The committee will continue discussing ways to pursue this.

C. Dropping a PHRF Score:  There was discussion about dropping a second race for the A Series . Ty will send an email to the PHRF boat owners for their recommendations. The E.C. will let the boat owners decide the course of action they want to take.

D. Wind Indicator:  Dave has donated an official, calibrated wind indicator that will be used to measure the wind speed for the races. Thanks Dave!

IV. Rating Committee:   A second appeal was provided by the rating committee to the LCPHRF Committee on behalf of Craig Meyerson. The appeal was denied and Craig has been directed by LCPHRF to proceed as he sees fit.

V. Social Events:  The EC decided to try a new venue for next year's spring banquet. A catered event at Merons may be considered.  Also, the club is planning a summer raft up for August. More details will be provided as August gets closer.

VI.  New Business: Amy is working with the AM Rotary Club on behalf of VSC to provide information about the racing for those riding on the Rotary Observation Cruise during the Mayor's Cup. A story board about racing and a handout about mark roundings will be provided. The goal: increase awareness and interest in VSC and racins.

Next meeting: August 13th.
