Freya wins Cracked Pot

Despite starting early and having to re-start, Freya eked out a 19 second win over Souvenir in the very exciting finish of the 16.1-mile staggered start Cracked Pot.  Four boats converged at the finish, with Soundwave just 20 seconds behind Souvenir and Real Escape coming in another 20 seconds later.

OD Brian White selected Course 5, in the S-SW 16 knot winds, one of the new “figure 8” courses, starting at N, leaving Crab Island to starboard, Valcour Island to port, to the windward mark at AuSable Point, then downwind east of Garden and Valcour Islands, into the gap between Valcour and Crab Islands, leaving Crab to starboard, then to the finish at N.

The Course required good strategies, some boats going left and others right, some hugging RN 24 and others going further out into the broad lake, then skirting Valcour Island’s west shore with multiple tacks upwind, and requiring multiple jibes downwind, particularly on the leg going through the islands’ gap.

The participants enjoyed an after race “raft-in” BBQ of burgers and dogs at the dock by Souvenir, compliments of your membership fees. Special thanks to our rear commodore, Katie Inhelder, for organizing the BBQ.

Our next weekend series race is the Kent-DeLord benefit/JAM 2 this coming Sunday.  Remember to get your tax deductible $100 donation/sponsorship to Katie, with all proceeds going to the Kent-DeLord House.  After race awards, refreshments and free house tours at Kent-DeLord.

See you there!
